Dear Schenectady High School Families, Students, and Community,

Happy New Year! I hope this message finds you and your family well as we begin 2025 with optimism and a renewed focus on growth and success.

As we move into January, the second quarter is quickly coming to a close. I encourage our young people to stay focused on their academics, take advantage of available resources, and reach out to teachers for support when needed.

This month, we are also implementing a new weapons detection system at Schenectady High School. This addition reflects our commitment to enhancing the safety and security of everyone in our school community. Thank you for your continued partnership in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Additionally, January marks NYS Regents Week, an important time for students to demonstrate their mastery of key subjects. These exams are critical to fulfilling graduation requirements and represent an opportunity for students to achieve their academic goals. Whether this is their first attempt or a chance to improve, we encourage students to give their best effort and take advantage of this opportunity.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Schenectady High School. Together, we are learning, growing, and thriving.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

All Class of 2025 students, from all Leadership Communities, have the opportunity to participate in the Global Civic Initiative. Our partners from Peoples' Perception Project and Albany District Links presented to our Senior Class. Any Senior who would like to use their voice to identify an area of need (either locally or globally) and develop a civic mission is invited to do just that! Our partners will return to provide support for students throughout the year-long initiative. Students will also get some guidance in their Social Studies classes to help with this exciting, advocacy project.

Calling all Poets! Do you like to write and read your poetry? If so, please sign up for our upcoming Poetry Workshop Series, in partnership with Adonis Richards, and Lucid Writers. This is a six-series workshop which culminates in a Poetry Slam! The workshops run from February-April, and students must SIGN UP to attend. See the flyer for details!

Congratulations to our Featured Student, John Gibbs, and our Featured Teacher, Ms. Insull! Details below =).

On the evening of December 5th, we were entertained by students in Ms. Rachel Gayne's piano studio with an evening of piano and vocal music in the annual VPA Fall Recital. This event gave students an authentic performance experience in front of an appreciative audience, with a range of musical styles from show tunes to classics to modern hits. Congratulations to Ms. Gayne and all the performers!

The annual Winter Concert was held on December 11th, featuring the work of the high school music ensembles! The program featured a magnificent blend of practiced harmonies, improvised solos, seasonal classics, and music from around the world!

Congratulations go out to our conductors and their ensembles: Ms. Bee leading the Patriot Orchestra and Chamber Strings; Ms. Lamb leading the Concert Choir, Harmonears Treble Choir, and Serenaders; and Mr. Pray leading Jazz Band 1, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. A true team music team effort, Ms. Gayne accompanied the choirs on piano, and Mr. Casano assisted with sound support and technical assistance. Congratulations to all performers and their teacher-conductors!
